Dear African Americans
I want you to know that what happened to the unarmed black man in Minnesota was absolutely horrible. A blind person could have seen that. However, please know that the actions of these police officers do not reflect the opinions of all White Americans.
We love the same way you love. We hurt by the same things that hurt you. We all want to be treated well. African Americans were treated horribly throughout history, but we aren't them and we don't share their ideas or beliefs. We hope you know that! Most White Americans have friends, neighbors, and partners that are African American and we treat others as we are treated.
Many of us believe that we are all equal. Don't allow a few bad ones to keep you from getting to know the majority of us that are good and believe in co-existing with our other fellow Americans. Regardless of the color of your skin or the color of ours.
Over the years we have all shared ideas and inspired each other. Fashion, music, television, food, politics, and more have been changed for the better of all Americans. But only because we all worked together and cared about each other. Regardless of how you feel about the government and cops, please know that not all white people are disgusting, cruel, and racist.
Ps. Someone once said that they wanted white people to ask what it is that African Americans wanted and needed. Suppose a magic wand could be waved and things appear exactly the way you want. What would that look like? Try to tell us what you want and how you feel. What can we do for you to make you feel more at home in America? What would make you happiest? What would it look like to you and your family if we could? Be honest. Closed mouths don’t get fed. Right? Never know who might read this and turn your wants into a reality.
